About Alive and Well

Alive and Well STL is a community-wide effort focused on reducing the impact of stress and trauma on our health and well-being. The research is clear. Stress and traumatic experiences are making many of us sick and together are a leading cause of poor health outcomes.

To become Alive and Well, we need:

  1. Informed, supportive communities that recognize the impact of stress and trauma on people’s lives and their health.
  2. Service providers who respond to individuals in a way that acknowledges the impact of stress and trauma in their lives.
  3. Access to mental health services that recognize and address the impact of stress and trauma.
  4. Communities and services that actively work to reduce exposure to traumatic events and toxic stress.

As we become Alive and Well in St. Louis, we will become increasingly emotionally and physically well. Our community will take five … pause … and ask “What happened?” instead of asking “What’s wrong?”

Alive and Well STL, sponsored by the St. Louis Regional Health Commission, is a collaboration of individuals and organizations across the region, including: KSDK NewsChannel 5, the St. Louis American, Hot 104.1, Old School 95.5 and RareGem Productions. We invite individuals to become involved as Ambassadors to help build supportive communities. Alive and Well STL also offers trainings about the impact and prevalence of trauma and stress on health.

Alive and Well STL is supported by the Missouri Foundation for Health and the St. Louis Mental Health Board.

Alive and Well STL Executive Steering Committee:

The Alive and Well STL executive committee has been formed to formalize coordination in our region as we build a trauma-informed community. Together, we continue our work to elevate trauma and toxic stress as a regional health priority in order to improve health, educational and economic outcomes.
